Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to employment generation at the Nijukti Mela (recruitment fair) held at the Capital High School ground in Bhubaneswar.

Addressing the newly recruited government employees, he emphasized that government jobs are not just a source of livelihood but also a crucial avenue for public service.

The Chief Minister highlighted that 6,390 candidates have been appointed across nine departments of the state government.

The Health and Family Welfare Department led the recruitment with 2,878 new hires, followed by the School and Mass Education Department with 2,767 appointments.

Other departments that participated in the recruitment drive include the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department with 232 appointments, the Finance Department with 130 appointments, the Skill Development and Technical Education Department with 123 appointments, the ST & SC Development Department with 104 appointments, the Housing and Urban Development Department with 62 appointments, the Water Resources Department with 57 appointments, and the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department with 37 appointments.

CM Majhi informed that in the past seven months, the government has organized six Nijukti Melas, creating over 20,000 jobs. With the latest Nijukti Mela, the total number of recruitments has surpassed 26,000. The government aims to provide 65,000 government jobs within the first two years and 1.5 lakh jobs over the next five years.

Addressing the new recruits, the Chief Minister acknowledged the scarcity of government job opportunities, emphasizing that less than one percent of Odisha’s population is employed in the government sector.

He noted that even after including vacant positions, the total number of government employees in the state remains around 4.5 lakh.

He told the recruits that they are among the privileged few who have secured a government job, which is a result of their hard work and their parents’ blessings.

He urged them to embrace their roles with dedication, integrity, and a sense of service, ensuring efficient implementation of government programs at the grassroots level.

CM Majhi reiterated his government’s commitment to making Odisha a developed state by 2047 and a prosperous state by 2036. He emphasized that employment generation is a key focus, alongside infrastructural and industrial growth.

He highlighted the success of the Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, which has attracted investment commitments worth ₹17 lakh crore, creating potential for 13 lakh private-sector jobs. He assured that the next five years will be a period of immense opportunities for Odisha’s youth.

The Chief Minister underlined the government’s commitment to clean and corruption-free administration, stressing that strict action is being taken against corruption. He advised the new employees to uphold integrity and make the best use of their opportunity to serve the people of Odisha.

The event was attended by several prominent leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Parvati Parida, who praised the government’s transformative steps in employment generation.

Other key attendees included Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mukesh Mahaling, Minister of Schools and Mass Education Nityanand Gond, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister of Industries, Skill Development, and Technical Education Sampad Chandra Swain, and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja.

During the event, Shalini Pandit, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, delivered the welcome address, while Ashwati S, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, proposed the vote of thanks.

The Chief Minister concluded his address by encouraging the recruits to serve with sincerity, honesty, and dedication, contributing to the vision of a strong, prosperous, and empowered Odisha.
