Bhubaneswar: Fire Services personnel rescued a 69-year-old man from the Mahanadi River in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Tuesday. According to reports, after being rescued, the sexagenarian told the Fire Services personnel and police that he fell into the river from Chanborpur Bridge while taking a selfie.
He is said to be suffering from a number of ailments and he lost balance while taking the selfie and fell into the river.
Earlier reports said that an unidentified person came up on the bridge on a scooty and spoke to someone over his mobile phone. Then, he suddenly jumped into the river from the bridge, leaving his mobile phone, sandals, and scooty.
At the time of the incident, many people were taking a morning walk on the bridge. They saw the man jump into the river but could do little to save him.
On being informed, police arrived at the spot and recovered the items left behind by the man on the bridge. After a few hours of search, the old man was rescued from the river.
