Khordha: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested seven persons, including a woman, and seized 314.970 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 31 lakh at Manikagoda village of Dalei Sahi under Bolagarh police station in Khordha district on Tuesday.
The arrested have been identified as Pranaya Ratha (36) and Satyalochan Sahoo (43), both residents of Ganjam district; and Maheswar Swain alias Dharama (30), Mir Ataulla alias Babul (26), Mir Abdulla alias Bunia (23), Mir Mustaf Alli alias Rinku (26), and Maina Begum (27) (female), all residents of Khordha district.
According to police, Bolagarh IIC Snigdha Mayee Baral led a raid at the accused persons’ residence on Monday around 2 pm. During the operation, police seized 314.970 grams of brown sugar, cash worth Rs 4 lakh, five vehicles—including two cars and three bikes—and a country-made single-barrel gun.
“Under the supervision of IIC Bolagarh, the team successfully carried out the raid. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 44.60 lakh. We will continue such operations to eliminate brown sugar from the city,” said Khordha SP Vivekanand Sharma while briefing the media.
The police have registered a case and further investigations are underway.
