Bhubaneswar: A group of people sustained injuries, some of them critical, after a swarm of wild honey bees attacked them on a road in Betonati area of Mayurbhanj district.
People including two school students endured multiple stings during the bee strike. All had to visit a nearby hospital and have recovered since.
On Wednesday morning, a swarm of wild bees was crossing the road in Baidapur Hatapadia village near Betonati. The bees assaulted some people passing by on the road.
Two school students Kiran Mahant and Shubham Mahant of Kuradika village, Durga Singh of Baidapur, Deepika Dogra of Merda, Rajendra Dhanudia of Jugala village, Indrajit Sahu of Satapautia and Shubhalakshmi Sahu of Satapautia were seriously injured.
Locals immediately dialed ‘108’ call centre informing about the bee assault. Later, all the injured persons were taken to Betonati health centre.
Traffic movement on the road was disrupted for quite some times following the incident.
