Angul: Police have arrested a seven-member dacoit gang. The gang was apprehended while it was planning a major robbery near Badamahitala under Nisha Industrial Area police limits in Angul district on Monday night.
Police have seized a country-made pistol, live bullets, two SUVs, eight mobile phones and Rs 31,950 in cash from the gang’s possession.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off that the gang was planning a major robbery, Angul Special Squad and policemen of Nisha Industrial Area police station conducted a joint raid leading to the arrests.
The accused have been identified as Subasish Sahani of Laxminarayanpur village of Athagarh, Jitu Ranjan Behera of Upara Sahi of Athagarh, Umesh Samal of Laxmanpur village, Rajesh Pradhan of Brahmapur under Rasol police limits, Sunil Kumar Rout of Siaria village of Dhenkanal district, Susant Sahoo of Jeranga under Jarapada police limits, and Debashish Rout of Rukuta area under Mancheswar police limits.
The accused were arrested today and forwarded to court.
Apart from the gang’s involvement in several cases of robbery in Athagarh, Badamba, Dhenkanal, and Cuttack, it was also involved in the loot of United Central Cooperative Bank at Boinda.
