7 Odia Migrant Labourers Rescued From Andhra Pradesh Brick Kiln
**Sundargarh:** The Labour Department of Odisha successfully rescued seven migrant labourers today who were held hostage by a brick kiln owner in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. While five of these labourers belong to Sundargarh, two others hail from Bargarh.
A few days back, five labourers had managed to escape the brick kiln after the owner had allegedly thrown acid and cut fingers of a labourer. After reports of this news started doing the rounds, Labour Commissioner of Odisha contacted his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh and tried to expedite the process of rescuing the labourers.
The rescued labourers have also revealed that the owner had tortured them even more brutally after he had realized that some of his workers had escaped back home. The owner had even branded some of his workers with a hot iron and was also blackmailing them to give him money. Reportedly, a few persons from Burta village under Hemgir block of Sundargarh district had been lured by a contractor identified as Mahesh to work at a kiln in Vizianagaram of Andhra Pradesh.
