Balasore: Seven students of Banabihari Lal Government High School of Godikhal under Basta block in Balasore district fell ill after taking deworming tablets supplied by the government in schools as part of the state-wide deworming campaign launched today.
Out of around 340-350 students administered deworming tablets seven complained of head reeling, nausea and chest pain.
Teachers at the school immediately shifted the sick students by ambulance to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Basta.
“We had given deworming tablets to around 340-350 students studying in classes I to X after lunch. Four students of class VII and three students of class V complained of headaches and stomach pain. We contacted the Medical Officer of the mobile team. They immediately shifted them here,” informed Narendra Kumar Nayak, Headmaster, Banabihari Lal Government High School speaking to reporters.
Nayak who was present in the CHC said that there has been improvement in the health condition of the sick students.
Quoting the Medical Officer, Nayak said that there is nothing to be scared of.
Out of the seven sick students, six are girls and one is a boy.
To combat the threat of intestinal worms among women of reproductive age and children, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, along with UNICEF, is conducting a state-wide deworming campaign.
