Dhenkanal: In an unfortunate incident, a seven-year-old boy was killed after being trapped under mud wall following an elephant attack at Ragadishai under Sorisapada section of Kapilas range in Dhenkanal district on Tuesday night.
The child has been identified as Akash Hembram (7), son of Tapan Hembrab.
The child died last night when the wall of his house collapsed after a wild elephant broke it last night. The incident occurred when the family members including the child were asleep.
The death of the kid triggered tension in the village. On receiving the information, Forest Department officials, and police reached the village and recovered the body of the child.
The body was sent to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem. The officials discussed with the family members of the victim and assured government assistance as per the rules.
Local residents alleged that wild elephants wreaked havoc in their locality which has become a regular affair. But, the forest department has done precious little to protect the lives and properties of the people, they alleged.
