Bhubaneswar: A seven-year-old girl died after drowning in Mantei River at Jagannath Prasad panchayat under Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district.
The deceased has been identified as Jhili, daughter of Arjun Maiti.
According to reports, Jhili had come to her maternal grandfather’s house at Mishrapur with her mother. While playing alone near the river in the afternoon, she accidentally fell into the river. When she didn’t return home, her family members made a frantic search for her.
They later searched for her in the river, but couldn’t find her. Finding no other way, the family members informed the fire department.
After a prolonged search, the fire department team retrieved Jhili’s lifeless body and took it to Basudevpur Community Health Centre, where she was declared dead by the doctor.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, with locals mourning the loss of the young girl.
