Bhubaneswar: In a serious violation of traffic norms, seven youths, including six minors, were caught riding a single scooter in a dangerously reckless manner near Dhanupali Police Station in Sambalpur district late on Sunday night.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over road safety and juvenile behaviour in urban areas.
According to reports, the group was seen creating a nuisance while joyriding through the area, attracting the attention of passersby and local residents. Several traffic rules were flouted, including overloading, underage driving, and lack of helmets.
Upon receiving the information, police personnel from Dhanupali Police Station launched an immediate search for the vehicle.
With the help of CCTV surveillance footage from the area, they were able to quickly identify and track the scooter, leading to the detention of the rider. The vehicle was subsequently seized and brought to the police station for further action.
Following the incident, a fine of Rs 21,500 was imposed on the registered owner of the two-wheeler under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
