Bhubaneswar: State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi today informed that 71 per cent of voters turned up for casting their votes during the second phase of three-tier Panchayat elections.
“Voting was carried out in 20,436 booths for 186 Zilla Parishads in 1,514 Gram Panchayats of 68 Blocks across Odisha. Apart from a few incidents of violence, the election process was largely peaceful,” Padhi said.
In the wake of violence in the first phase of elections, the DGP was directed to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections in the subsequent phases, Padhi added.
At some places in Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur the voting was affected on Friday. Similarly, due to errors in ballot papers, re-election might be announced in a few places. The Collectors have been asked to submit a report in these cases, the SEC stated.
