**Konark**: A septuagenarian woman named Basanti Palata of Dhirapur Dalei Sahi had allegedly been beaten up by the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) Nimapara police station on May 7 for not sorting out the domestic issues with her daughter-in-law and turning up at the police station regularly.
The act was filmed by some vigilant onlooker who shared it in the social media after which it became viral and the matter came to the fore.
As per reports, Basanti’s daughter-in-law had filed a complaint against her in-law for allegedly torturing her. The IIC had called the mother-in-law to the police station in this regard. When she visited the PS with her son on May 7, the IIC allegedly detained them for around two hours and then began thrashing the woman with a ‘lathi’.
The victim has lodged a written complaint in this regard with the Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi.
However, the ‘accused’ IIC has refuted these allegations. According to him, “The woman was adamant for not taking her daughter-in-law back home. I just tried to counsel her on this matter. She has levelled false allegations against me.”
