Bhubaneswar: Nayapalli police on Friday apprehended eight accused including a minor in connection with the bloody violence between two groups at Nayapalli BRIT Colony during Holi on Tuesday.
Police have seized swords, bhujalis, cudgels and bikes used in the violence.
These hooligans had let loose terror in the Nayapalli BRIT Colony area on the evening of Holi. As many as four cases were registered with the police in this connection.
An altercation broke out between two groups over bathing at the pond near the Baba Balunkeshwar temple resulting in a scuffle on Holi.
Later it took a violent turn in the evening as sword and cudgel-wielding youths attacked whoever came their way. Several innocent people were injured in the attack. Terror-struck locals informed the Nayapalli police.
Police on reaching the spot recorded statements and seized CCTV footage which helped the former to nab the accused persons.
The accused youths have several cases against their names.
“After studying the video footage and on examining the locals present during the incident and other sources we could identify the accused persons involved in this incident. Nayapalli police have been searching for them for the last two days. Nayapalli police has been successful in nabbing eight persons,” informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh today.
