80% Villages In Khordha Dist Have Reported No Cases Of Covid-19

Bhubaneswar: The situation in Khordha district due to Covid pandemic is not that grim as often painted if the area under the jurisdiction of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is excluded.

“Out of around 1,358 villages in the district, only 276 have reported positive cases which on the other way round means that 80% of the villages have reported no cases of Covid, informed newly appointed Khordha Collector Sanat Kumar Mohanty.

“Most of the cases have been detected especially from four blocks- Tangi, Banapur, Bolagarh and Begunia,” he said addressing a presser at the Geeta Govinda Sadan here today sharing details on Covid situation.

The Khordha Collector informed that as many as 17,405 migrant Odias have returned to the district out them 470 had tested positive for the virus and now all of them have been cured.

“As of now 1,701 positive cases have been detected and out them, 901 are active cases while 784 have been cured and discharged and 16 have succumbed to the disease,” Mohanty said sharing Covid statistics.

As of now, 27 containment zones are in existence, he added.

Informing that as on date 500 persons are being tested for Covid on an average in a day which will be increased, Khordha Collector said that two rounds of the survey of the 2,71,00 families in the district as part of the surveillance efforts have been completed and the third round through Covid Care Committees is underway.

All symptomatic cases detected during the surveys have been provided with treatment, he added.
Mohanty stated that three Covid Care Centres have been set up-Jamujhari, Jatni and PN College having a bed capacity of 1087.

He added that anticipating a surge in the number of positive cases efforts are underway to increase bed capacity and the administration is in talks with private clinics and hospitals for setting up of Covid facilities.
