Nuapada: A massive crackdown on illegal gambling activities led to the arrest of 81 gamblers and the seizure of over Rs 29 lakh in cash, along with luxurious vehicles, from a gambling den at Thelkodunguri near Khariar Road on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.
The raid, which took place under Jank police station in Nuapada district, is considered one of the biggest crackdowns on a gambling den in the state.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team of police from Koraput, led by Nuapada SP G.R.Raghavendra, raided the area on Saturday, following instructions from DGP YB Khurania.
The police seized materials used in the illegal game, as well as around 74 mobile phones. The location’s proximity to the Chhattisgarh border made it a hub for players from both states to engage in illegal gaming activities.
“We have so far apprehended 81 people including 64 from Chhattisgarh, 16 from Odisha and one from Maharastra. We have also seized rs 29.45 lakh cash, 88 mobile phones, and 32 vehicles including 27 four wheelers. Further investigation is underway,” Nuapada SP said.
