Bhubaneswar: On the first day of filing of nominations for the three-tier elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Odisha as many as 8,772 filed their nominations.
According to the information shared by the Secretary, State Election Commission (SEC), 7,116 candidates filed nominations for the posts of Ward Members, and 1,122 candidates filed nominations for posts of Sarpanches.
Similarly, 512 candidates filed nominations for the posts of Panchayati Samiti Members, and 22 candidates filed nominations for the posts of Zilla Parishad members.
As per the schedule announced by the SEC, elections will be held in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24.
Nomination papers will be issued and presented from January 17 to 21. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done on January 22.
Candidates can withdraw their nomination by January 25 and the final list of candidates will be issued on the same day.
The counting of votes will be held in three phases on February 26, 27, and 28.
