Baripada: Forest Department staff and Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) personnel during a joint raid on Friday night arrested nine poachers from Similipal National Park.
Forest Department staff have seized nine country-made guns and sambar meat from their possession, informed In-Charge Field Director Similipal Tiger Reserve, Prakash Chand Gogineni to reporters.
As per reports, over 40 poachers from villages of Upartaldiha, Jamdiha, Khalidihi in Patasanipur and Kundabai panchayats under Udala police limits in Jenabil Range adjoining Similipal armed with several guns entered the Similipal National Park for Akhand Shikar.
On being tipped off, Forest Department staff of Dukura and Podadiha Ranges and STPF personnel conducted a joint raid arrested nine poachers and seized nine country-made guns from their possession.
Other hunting materials were also seized from their possession. While they are being interrogated at the Forest Department office efforts are underway to nab the other poachers.
