93% Sequenced Samples In Odisha Are Delta Variant: ILS Director

Bhubaneswar: Out of the 3000 genome sequenced COVID-19 positive samples in Odisha, 93 percent persons were found infected with the Delta variant informed Director of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Dr Ajay Parida, on Thursday.

Parida said that ILS has till date conducted genome sequencing of around 60 to 65 thousand COVID-19 positive samples. As per the trend, total 96 percent persons were found infected with the Delta variant.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to increase the genome sequencing to check further mutation in the virus and study their response. There has been no mutation in the virus since the last 15 days, said the ILS Director.

The Covid-19 outbreak is currently in a stable state. During the first wave an infected person was recovering within 15 days, but during the second wave the infection is staying in the human body for more than three weeks, he added.
