9352 RT-PCR Among 51K COVID-19 Tests In Odisha In Last 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: A total of 51,824 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Odisha in the last 24 hours, the Health & Family Welfare Department informed on Saturday.

Out of this, the RT-PCR tests for COVID-19 count for 9352. The Rapid Antigen Tests count for another 42,366 and TrueNAT tests are 106 in numbers.

While, antibody tests are done to look for the presence of antibodies, which are specific proteins made in response to infections. Also termed as Serological Test, antibodies are detected in the blood of people who are tested after infection as they show an immune response to the infection. Antibody test results are especially important for detecting previous infections in the population.

The molecular RT-PCR test detects the virus’s genetic material. To get the most accurate results, RT-PCR tests should be conducted 8 days after suspected exposure or infection, to ensure that enough viral material is present to detect.

Coming to TrueNAT, the chip-based test works by detecting the SARS-CoV-2 E-gene, which helps build the envelope that holds the components of the coronavirus together, and the gene for the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, an enzyme that enables the virus to replicate.

Unlike traditional RT-PCR tests, the sample preparation in TrueNAT tests is automated, and the results are available within half an hour.
