Bhubaneswar: As many as 97 cold storages across Odisha are not functional while 36 of those are in working condition. In a reply to a question in the State Assembly on Wednesday, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain shared information on cold storage in the State.
“It is not possible to operationalise the defunct cold storages as the repairing cost will be too high. Instead, new cold storage can be set up with that money. The State government has planned to build 1,000 cold storages to meet the requirement of farmers,” the Minister noted
The new cold storages, run by solar energy, will be managed by Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water department and Self Help Groups (SHGs), Swain added.
