Bhubaneswar: As many as 970 persons died after drowning in various rivers in Odisha in the last three years, informed Minister of State (MoS) for Home Tusharkanti Behera in the State Assembly today.
Behera in a written reply to a query from BJD lawmaker Souvik Biswal, Behera said that a total of 1615 persons had drowned in rivers in the state during the last three years and out of them 613 were rescued while 970 had died.
Behera further said that as a precautionary measure, the required number of Fire Service and Emergency personnel are deployed at dangerous points on river banks during festivals.
