Odisha Govt Earmarked Funds For 463 Mini-Stadiums: Sports Minister

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has a proposal to fund 314 block level and 149 town-level mini-stadiums across Odisha. Out of these, the construction of 217 mini-stadiums has been completed, 128 units are under-construction and the construction work of 118 mini-stadiums is yet to start, Sports and Youth Services Department Minister Tusharkanti Behera said today in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Replying to a question posed by Congress MLA Suresh Routray, Behera said that the Department has a proposal to build two-mini stadiums in Jatni block. "The two-proposed stadiums will be build in Labanagiri high school playgroung and Kumbharpadia under Jatni municipality. A sum of Rs 20 lakh has been earmarked for each of these projects," the Minister added.

The State Government is working on mission mode to facilitate all necessary infrastructure for Under-16 Indian Football Team and under-19 (Indian Arrows) Football (Boys) teams at Kalinga Stadium complex. Besides, JSW and All India Football Federation are working in tandem to setup the 'Football High Performance Centre' at Kalinga Stadium, added Behera.

"To organise the all India Kalinga Cup Football tournament, the State Government has funded the Football Association of Odisha. Indian Super Cup Football, Hero Super Cup and 4 Nation Gold Cup Women's Football tournaments have been organised in Bhubaneswar," the Minister said.

Routray had sought a response from the Government over the steps taken for development of Football and Cricket and organising all-India level tournaments in Odisha. The Jatni MLA also asked the Minister about development of mini-stadiums in his constituency.
