Odisha: Senior Servitor Rests On Lord Sudarshan Inside Rath, Draws Flak As Photo Goes Viral

11 July 2019

Puri: Social media has been taken by storm after a picture of a senior servitor resting on Lord Sudarshan went viral. In the photo, it is clear that the incident occurred during the world-renowned annual car festival Rath Yatra in Puri. However, the year of the picture has not been ascertained yet.

The man in picture is Premananda Das Mahapatra. He was the former Secretary of Daitapati Nijog (Servitors Association) of Puri Jagannath temple. In the photo, Mahapatra is leaning and taking a nap on Lord Sudarshan (the pilot God) on Devi Subhadra’s Darpadalan chariot.

Many people have pointed out that the servitors are first to raise fingers when someone commits a mistake inside the 12th century shrine, but they themselves are violating rules and norms in public. Devotees on social media have also shared the photo criticizing the servitor for the disrespecting the Gods.
