Bhubaneswar: Marriages are made in heaven, but this one is different as it was solemnised in the Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar. The jail wore a festive look on Monday as an undertrial prisoner tied the nuptial knot with his lady love at a simple function inside the prison.
According to reports, the 31-year-old undertrial prisoner was arrested on February 1 this year on charges of kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl in Khurda. A few days back, the girl turned 18 and she expressed her desire to marry the UTP.
Accordingly, the undertrial prisoner sent a plea to the Khurda District Legal Services Authority (DLSA, Khurda) through the prison authorities. Subsequently, the bride too approached the DLSA with the petition to marry the undertrial prisoner. Thereafter, the DLSA approved both petitions expeditiously protecting the Fundamental Rights of a person as envisaged under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
It was then decided that their marriage would be organised inside the Jharpada Special Jail premises.
On Monday, the two tied the nuptial know following proper Hindu rituals in the presence of their respective family members, jail officials, and some dignitaries of the district. The event lit up the environment inside the jail.
The groom arrived at the marriage venue accompanied by other inmates of the prison and his family members in a vehicle decorated with flowers to marry his lady love and her family members. A grand feast followed the happy ending.
