Bhubaneswar: The School & Mass Education (S&ME) Department has clarified that Aadhaar Card of children is not a mandatory pre-requisite for admission.
The S&ME Department issued the clarification after it was found that some schools are insisting parents to submit Aadhaar cards for admission of children in different classes.
“It is clarified that the children must be allowed to take admission in schools with or without Aadhaar card. It is also instructed that after admission, students may be facilitated for obtaining Aadhaar cards by coordinating with various offices of the district and Aadhaar is NOT a mandatory pre-requisite for admission,” said Aswathy S, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, S&ME Department in a letter issued to all District Education Officers (DEOs) on Tuesday.
It is clarified that the children must be allowed to take admission in schools with or without Aadhaar card, the letter added.
In the letter, the Secretary requested DEOs to communicate all headmasters accordingly for smooth admission of students and warned that further deviation from the instruction will be viewed seriously.
The letter further said that as earlier instructed admission of students should be hassle-free and smooth and in no case, parents shall face inconvenience during the admission of their children.
