Bhubaneswar: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) today issued a statement confirming Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s aerial tour of flood-affected districts on August 31.
In a written statement, Biju Patnaik International Airport’s Director said, “It is learnt that there was a miscommunication in the media about flight details and timings.”
The complete statement of AAI read:
“The Chief Minister’s flight departed from the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar at 3:42 PM on August 31 and landed back at the airport at 4:01 PM. All the timings given with respect to flight movements are in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) only as per International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).”
“As per our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for VVIP flights, VVIP means President, Vice President, Prime Minister of India and Foreign Heads of State / Government.”
“Actual flying time is 19 minutes excluding warm-up time, start-up time at apron and taxi time to runway and return to apron after landing.”
The clarification by AAI came a day after, a report flashed on a regional news channel which raised questions on the CM’s aerial tour.
The Airport Director added, “Chief Minister is not included in VVIP list. The Chief Minister went at 3:42 PM and not at 10:12 am as shown yesterday. The 19 minutes air time, is excluding take-off and landing time.”
