Bhubaneswar: Several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and leaders in Odisha staged protest here against their national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy case.
A group of party workers led by convenor of Odisha Unit Nishikant Mohapatra took out a rally at Master Canteen square in Bhubaneswar and later staged a sit-in protesting ‘undemocratic’ arrest of Kejriwal.
The workers took to the streets shortly after the ED team arrested the Delhi CM.
The protesters said that Narendra Modi-led BJP is scared of the Aam Admi Party and its leader Arvind Kejriwal.
“Narendra Modi has ordered to arrest Arvind Kejriwal otherwise it would be impossible for them to win 2024 general election. Why did the ED issue summon for nine times? Why didn’t they arrest Kejriwal after first summon?, AAP Odisha convenor Nishikant Mohapatra asked.
“This is attack on the constitution and democracy of the country. This is not a matter of concern for the Aam Admy Party (AAP), but the democratic system. The countrymen have known the reputation of ED which is acting as a broker for BJP,” Mohapatra added.
“We demonstrate here throughout the day and night. We will continue to do so until Arvind Kejriwal is released from the jail,” he said.
About hundreds party workers and MLAs also protested the arrest of Kejriwal outside his residence in Delhi.
The ED arrested him hours after the Delhi High Court denied him relief in the liquor scam case.
