Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Block Education Officer (ABEO) of Muribahal block in Bolangir district was arrested by the Vigilance today on charges of demanding and taking bribe, said an official press release.
The accused identified as Devraj Das was caught red-handed by officers of the Vigilance, Sambalpur Division while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant for finalisation of enquiry proceedings drawn against the latter, the release stated.
Based on a complaint, officers of the anti-corruption wing laid a trap and Das was caught while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from the possession of Das and seized in presence of witnesses. Shirt pocket wash of the ABEO gave a positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, the release said.
According to the release, following the trap, the vigilance conducted simultaneous searches at Das’s rented house in Muriabahal and his house at his native village, Gudiapokhari under Pipili police limits in Puri district.
The release said that a case under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against Das and he has been arrested.
Further, investigation in the matter is underway, the release added.
