Abhay Likely To Join As DGP Odisha On Monday, Receives Farewell At Academy

Bhubaneswar: The newly appointed DG of Odisha Police- Abhay received farewell as the Director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad and the word on the street is that he may take charge of his new responsibility on Monday, i.e. December 9.

The Director’s farewell parade was held at the Academy early this week to bid adieu. The 1986-batch Odisha cadre IPS officer Abhay had joined the SVNPA in July this year and had a brief memorable tenure as he replaced BK Sharma as Odisha DGP as corruption charges surfaced against Sharma.

At NPA Abhay trained the 70RR and 71RR of IPS Probationers. He was the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) prior to heading the NPA.

He has already served as Additional DG (Training) in CRPF and Inspector General (IG) of Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) under Government of India.

Notably, the 1986 batch IPS officer was earlier the head of Odisha Crime Branch, State Intelligence Director and the chief in the Directorate of Printing, Stationery and Publication of Government of Odisha.

After receiving the responsibility, IPS Abhay had said, “I am deeply honoured and humbled by my appointment as DGP Odisha. I look forward to serving the people of Odisha to the best of my capacity.”
