Bhubaneswar: The family of a young boy from Bhadrak, who succumbed to COVID-19 last year, returned Rs 40 lakh to relief funds meant for common people.
The amount returned by the youth, Abhishek Mahapatra’s family was arranged in form of contributions from public through appeals over social media.
Abhishek’s wife Mousami accompanied by his father handed over a cheque of Rs 40 lakh to Bhadrak Collector Trilochan Majhi requesting him to transfer Rs 30 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) and Rs 10 lakh to the District Red Cross Fund.
Abhishek was affected by COVID-19 in May, 2021, barely a week after his marriage. After his condition deteriorated, he was airlifted to Kolkata where Abhishek underwent ECMO treatment. He breathed his last on September 3.
The philanthropic step taken by Abhishek’s family has been welcome by people from all walks of life.
