Bhubaneswar: Police today arrested one Binaya Acharya in connection with the incident of blank firing near a food stall at the busy CRP Square on Tuesday evening.
“Following preliminary inquiry, we came to know that three persons were standing and quarrelling among themselves. After that Nayapalli police apprehended Binaya Acharya. We have recovered a .22 calibre armed weapon and 5 rounds of live ammunition from him. We have arrested Binaya Acharya and are forwarding him to court,” informed Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prateek Singh today.
Acharya has claimed that the .22 calibre pistol belonged to his wife Stitapragnya Ray, who is a sports shooter.
He added that had he not fired the shot he would have been dead today.
Acharya claimed that his attacker Bibhu Jena was a member of the notorious KKBN gang.
It was on Bibhu Jena’s complaint Acharya was apprehended by Nayapalli police.
