Accused Confesses To Rape Attempt And Murder Of Minor Girl: Nayagarh SP

Nayagarh: The Nayagarh police have arrested the accused in the case of abduction and murder of a minor girl which took place on June 12. The accused has been identified as Sagar Dalei, aged about 20 years. He is a resident of the same village Dhundugadi of Nuagaon panchayat, as the victim.

SP Siddharth Kataria said the accused has confessed to have abducted the girl by luring her with a smart phone. “He confessed to have attempted rape on the six-year-old girl. The minor fell unconscious following the rape attempt,” said Kataria.

Dalei further confessed to have murdered the girl by strangulating her with a rope. He feared that the minor would disclose her ordeal in the village. Since it is a small village and the 10 families belong to the same community, out of fear, Dalei killed the girl, the SP added.

“The accused had a trivial dispute/argument with the girl’s father in the past. We are investigating further to ascertain the cause of death. A case has been registered,” Kataria further said.

The body of the six-year-old girl who went missing on June 12 was recovered from a deserted forested spot on Wednesday morning. The girl went missing from near her home at Dhundugadia village of Nuagaon panchayat under Banigocha police limits.

Kataria had set up two teams to search for the victim and nab the accused.
