Bhubaneswar: A grave allegation of custodial death has emerged in Khordha district after an accused died while in police custody at Banpur police station.
Chhabindra Nayak, a resident of Dasarathipur village, was reportedly detained late last night by Banpur police for interrogation in connection with an alleged illegal liquor trade case. Sources indicate that his condition suddenly worsened during custody and police shifted him to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Notably, he was taken in a police vehicle rather than an ambulance, fueling questions about the adequacy of the emergency response. Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors pronounced him dead, intensifying suspicions regarding the events inside the police station.
The case has sparked widespread concerns over custodial misconduct, with calls mounting for a thorough investigation into the timeline following his detention.
Family members of the deceased accused Banpur police of possibly concealing key details. As of now, police have not released any official statement on the allegations.
