Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday arrested the accused in tiger hide smuggling case. The accused, identified as Fagu Prasad Hansda alias Falguni is a resident of Angarpada under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
The STF has booked him in a case registered on Wednesday (December 14) under Sections 379/411/120(B) of IPC, Sections 25/27 of Arms Act, 1985 and Section 51 of Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
A joint team of STF, local police and forest personnel of Baripada Forest Division, carried out a raid and nabbed the accused from an undisclosed location today. On Wednesday, the STF seized a tiger hide from the possession of one Dev Kumar Patra.
“Fagu had procured the tiger skin and during the raid he fled from the spot. He has been forwarded to the court of SDJM, Udala and further investigation is on. The accused was earlier arrested while illegally transporting 8 elephant tusks,” an STF official said.
