**Bhubaneswar: ** Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today raised a question mark on the tall claims of Election Commission for conducting free and fair poll in Odisha as the party’s repeated complaints against BJP at Centre have not yet been acted by the Chief Electoral Offcier (CEO) here while immediate actions are being taken against BJD basing on BJP’s complaints.
As decided, a delegation led by BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra comprising another spokesperson Sulata Deo and others knocke the doors of the CEO today and demanded immediate action.
Convening a press meet earlier in the day, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said, “We have been lodging our complaints with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) that the hoardings displaying Central schemes are still staying put illegally in Odisha. The example is that of Ujjwala Yojana. As per the model code of conduct in force, no government schemes or programmes can be advertised. Despite our repeated complaints, the BJP being in power at the Centre is resorting to audacious advertisement of Ujjwala Yojana. There is no bar to it in any respect.”
“While ban is being imposed on BJD and the CEO as well as the Election Commission is immediately acting against BJD, no action is being taken against the illegalities committed by the BJP.”
Flaunting photos of surrogate advertisement by BJP at Dhauli Chhak, Pipili Toll Gate, etc near to Odisha capital city Bhubaneswar, the BJD spokesperson said that those photos were tip of the iceberg nearby to the capital city let alone such violation across the State.
Citing another example, the BJD leader alleged, “In Kendrapara, BJP candidate Baijayant Panda is illegally using video vans for his political campaign. Those vans have no permission granted by the Election Commission. Why this exception for Baijayant Babu when law is equal to all and model code conduct is equal to all? Why has the CEO or the district administration not woken up for action? It is evident that free and fair poll claim is of no use. It is not been observed. Our demand is that strict action should be taken the video vans being illegally used by Baijayant Panda in Kendrapara.”
“If no action taken by the CEO, it will be construed that law is something different for Baijayant Panda as well as BJP and another law being imposed on others,” remarked the BJD spokesperson.
On the contrary, Odisha BJP vice-president Samir Mohanty said, “Now BJD’s target is only BJP. It is like mythological King Kansa as he was obsessed with Krishna all along.”
“They (BJD) have full political right to file such complaints with the CEO, Odisha. But, let them take care of their own house instead of BJP.”
