Bhubaneswar: Hours after resigning from his post as the BJD state general secretary, Ollywood actor Arindam Roy joined the BJP ahead of the general elections on Friday.
Arindam was welcomed to the BJP by the party state unit president Manmohan Samal and other leaders at the party office in Bhubaneswar.
Earlier in the day, he wrote to BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik that he was resigning from the party’s primary membership as his contributions were not recognised by the ruling party.
Soon after joining the saffron party, Arindam said, “I joined BJP inspired by the leadership of the Prime Minister. I will work for BJP as long as I can.”
He further said that he would work at the grassroots level and visit the villages in Odisha to make the BJP more popular in the state. “I thank BJP for giving me a place in its house.”
In another development, former Gunupur MLA Trinath Gomango joined the BJP in the presence of Samal. Samal said the former MLA would strengthen the saffron party in the Rayagada district.
Trinath had won the Gunupur Assembly seat in 2014 after joining the BJD in 2009. He, however, resigned from the BJD in March 2019.
