Bhubaneswar: Odisha Additional Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Padmanav Behera has written to the Collectors of seven districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, and Nuapada, directing them to ensure that people take precautionary measures given the prevailing heatwave conditions in the state.
In his advisory to the District Collectors, the Additional SRC has written, “The IMD has forecast that there will be a gradual rise in day temperature (maximum temperature) by 2°C to 3°C during the next five days and no major change in temperature thereafter at many places in Odisha. Heatwave conditions along with hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail across the state during the next five days.
Therefore, it is requested to take the following precautionary measures at your level to deal with any eventuality.”
He has advised the District Collectors to ensure the following measures:
- No labourer should be engaged in outdoor work between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm.
- People should be advised not to go outside their homes between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm.
- People should avoid prolonged heat exposure to heat and intense sunlight.
- They should wear light-coloured cotton clothes, cover their heads, and wear wet clothes while going outdoors during the daytime.
- People should be encouraged to drink sufficient fluids, including water, lassi, ORS, and homemade drinks.
- Caution should be exercised to avoid direct sunlight during the peak hours.
