Cuttack: A joint team of the Jagatpur police and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Thursday busted an adulterated ghee manufacturing unit in Jagatpur New Industrial Estate.
The team has seized huge quantity of adulterated ghee and has sealed the unit during the raid.
“IIC Jagatpur today received reliable information about manufacturing of fake ghee under the brand name of Balgopal Ghee at one Avistika Organic in the Jagatpur New Industrial Estate. We requisitioned the Health Officer and Food Safety Officer. We formed a joint team and conducted a raid at the premises. Our Health Officer and Food Safety Officer have drawn samples and seizure is underway. From preliminary investigation we have come to know that they are using Ruchi Gold Vanaspati, a sticky ingredient and essence which they are heating in a pan. Then they are packaging it under two brands– Balgopal Ghee and Nirmalya Ghee with cow picture on it,” informed ACP Arun Swain.
The ACP stated that the unit was despatching the product to Nabarangpur, Koraput and parts of western Odisha where people are consuming it.
“It is 100% fake. Ghee is a cow milk product-a natural product which has no scope for mixing . Here they are mixing Ruchi Gold vanaspati, essence and some other ingredient which lab report will tell to make ghee. They were making two brands–Balgopal and Nirmalya. After getting lab report we will initiate action against them as per the FS&S Act,” informed Dr Satyabrat Mohapatra, Health Officer CMC.
