**Bhubaneswar:** When the students are reeling under the placement scam of SOA University, a result scam in a leading Nursing School has surfaced in the city.
The students of 2011-2012 batch pursuing B.Sc in Neelachal Institute Of Medical Sciences, situated at Kharavela Nagar vandalized the college premises in protest as they have not received their registration numbers and marksheets even after passing the 4th year examination.
Though the results were declared in March 2017, not a single student of this institute has received the final statement of marks.
They filed an FIR at the Kharvela Nagar police station against the Damodar Pati, Chairman cum Trustee, Neelachal Institute Of Medical Sciences
“We have passed our 4th year but we are still not issued marksheets and our registration number, due to which we are not able to apply for any of the government jobs. Our Director always tried to wave us off by telling that it will come soon. But now when the students of other nursing institutes have received their marksheets in April, we are still to get it. Our future is in a toss,” said Ladlli Das, a protesting student.
It should be noted that the said institute does not have affiliation to the Utkal University. The question now arises, how did the institute take fees from the students and continue with the courses if there is no affiliation to any University.
When asked over telephone, Damodar Pati, Chairman cum Trustee, Neelachal Institute Of Medical Sciences clarified, “This college is established since 2004-2005 and the health department of government o f Odisha has accorded permanent recognition. The Indian Nursing Council has also given recognition which has empowered us to take admissions of students in our college.”
“Utkal University is just the examining body and we apply for provisional affiliation every year. It stopped giving the provisional affiliation since last few years.”he further informed.
When asked about the result fall-out, he said, “It is a pre-requisite that the institute should be affiliated to the University and then only they can conduct examinations. But if my institute was not affiliated, how could Utkal University hold examinations. Till 2012, Utkal University was renewing the affiliation every year. But time and again, I have approached them for affiliation but they have not heeded to me. They are not giving certificates to the passed out students.”
Th Chairman also wants an impartial enquiry on this matter. He said, “I am morally responsible for the condition of the students, but not lawfully responsible. I have been harassed by the University authorities due to a personal issue with Prof. Santosh Tripathy, Director, CDC, Utkal University. He is a corrupt officer asking for Rs 5 lakhs as bribe to do the needful. It is good that the students have resorted to vandalism because it is a question about their future. I am actually very much relieved as to the government will now look into this matter.”
