Bhubaneswar: A girl who was rescued by Childline from Puri district in Odisha and adopted by an Australian couple around 15 years back is now searching for her biological mother. In a letter to Puri Childline Director, she expressed her desire to meet her mother.
In 2007, Mamata was only three years old when she was rescued by Childline from near the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri. Her mother Basanti Das was suffering from leprosy, therefore, she had expressed her unwillingness and inability to raise the child.
Childline authorities shifted Mamata to Basundhara Childcare Centre in Cuttack where she stayed for around 18 months. Later, she was adopted by an Australian couple. Now, Mamata has grown up to be an 18-year-old financially sound girl who wants to do something for her poor biological mother.
Basanti is a resident of Khordha district, who comes to Puri for alms and then returns. After receiving the letter from Mamata, Childline formed three teams to search for Basanti and unite her with her daughter after years of separation.
