Cuttack: Doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack have achieved an extraordinary feat yet again. After a continuous 4-hour-long operation, they managed to remove a piece of bamboo pole from a youth’s stomach on Monday and saved his life.
28-year-old Panchanan Pradhan of Bargarh was painting his house on Sunday when his leg slipped and he fell on a bamboo pole. Owing to a sharp nail, they pole pieced his body through the stomach and protruded out of his back.
Panchanan was rushed to Burla Medical Hospital but the doctors were unable to remove the pole. He was later shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack and a team of doctors led by Srikant Panda performed the surgery on him. The 2.5 foot long pole of 3 inch diameter was removed after four long hours of operation.
While Panchanan is out of danger, the log has damaged his lungs and thus he is still under observation.
