**Bhubaneswar:** In view of repeated allegations of harassment levelled by inmates of Seva Ashrams against the authorities, the State Government has decided to install CCTV cameras in hostels managed by the ST & SC Development Department.
There are around 7000 hostels under the department. CCTVs will be installed at 1000 hostels in the first phase with a budget allocation of Rs 7 crore. The State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation has been given the responsibility to invite tender for installation of CCTVs at the hostels, said ST & SC Development Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi.
He further said the initiative is taken by the State Government to ensure safety of inmates at girls’ hostels. It will be gradually extended to all hostels across Odisha.
It will be a great step in regard to the safety of girl students and to check various other activities inside the periphery of schools, Majhi added.
