**Bhubaneswar: ** As BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched his Government’s flagship programme ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’ on Panchayati Raj Divas (Biju Babu’s birth centenary day on March 5) this year and has also been a stupendous success among the rural populace, BJP has launched its rural-centric programme ‘Gram Swaraj Abhijan’ in a bid to counter its political bete noire in Odisha.
Informing media, Odisha unit BJP president Basant Kumar Panda said, “On the occasion of Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, ‘Gram Swaraj Abhijan’ has been launched by the Central Government. Our national president Amit Shahji seeks that our BJP workers should play a major role in this new programme. It begins from today.”
“The aim and objective of this programme is to make the people aware of the pro-people schemes and programmes of Modi Sarkar implemented during its four-year tenure. It’s our duty to oversee if those schemes and programmes are being delivered to the people or not. Accordingly, our party workers will spend at least a night in a village and inform the people about the implementation of the schemes and programmes and review the benefits they are reaping.”
In his sharp reactions, senior BJD leader and Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy lampooned, “Why don’t they (BJP) begin it from Bijepur? They are yet to get aware of the fact that despite camping in Bijepur assembly segment’s villages for days and nights together, the people their rejected them miserably.”
“There is no hindrance for rural development. But, the way the BJP-led NDA Government should have laid stress on rural development has not been done. Only a handful of people have been benefitted by the NDA Government. The NDA Government has kept rural development’s prime objective at bay. As the elections are round the corner, they (BJP) have woken up suddenly to reach rural belt. The day BJD has been initiated, we have been organizing our ‘Gaon Ku Chala’ (let’s go to the village) from Gandhi Jayanti to Jayaprakash Narayan Jayanti,” he commented.
The Government Chief Whip argued, “Real priority is being given by our Chief Minister to rural development through ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’. The Chief Minister is personally reviewing it and approving funds for the projects on the spot.”
