**Cuttack: ** In the onging probe into the age-fudging scam, the CBI on Tuesday grilled a group of cricketers who furnished their certificates to enrol with the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) during this season.
According to sources, a two-member team arrived at the OCA office here and interacted with at least 19 cricketers who have applied for enrolment into the under-16 and under-19 teams.
While the OCA officials remained tight-lipped on OCA’s role pertaining to the investigation, a senior official of the governing body for cricket in the State, termed it as a routine investigation.
“The OCA has adopted a transparent procedure by demanding for court affidavits along with age certificates, before accepting applications. After proper scrutiny, the applications are sent to the Board (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for approval,” the official added.
For the past couple of years, the age concealing controversy has embarrassed OCA over allegations of lining up over-aged players in national level tournaments. Taking note of a complaint, the CBI started probe into the alleged scam in 2016.
In October this year, a member of the Odisha under-19 team was dropped after inaccurate information about his age came to the fore. One year back, the BCCI suspended seven senior women cricketers and 12 Under-19 players of Odisha for one year.
The BCCI has also issued notices to four Ranji players of the State on similar charges.
