Nabarangpur: Agitated villagers manhandled policemen in Jhariguda village under Dabugaon police limits in Nabarangpur block while trying to protect the accused person from attack by villagers after arresting him.
Dabugaon OIC Abhimanyu Durga, ASI Kulbhusan Nayak and a few female security personnel were manhandled by the agitated villagers.
“The villagers were agitated. Dabugaon OIC, ASI Nayak and a few female security personnel were manhandled by the villagers. Surely police will take action against them,” said Umerkote SDPO Nihar Ranjan Pradhan.
The body of a woman identified as Badrika Panaka was found hanging in a closed room in Jhariguda. She had a love marriage with one Sushil Nag of the same village around three years back. It being an inter-caste marriage relationship between the two families remained strained.
When news broke last night (Monday) that Badrika has committed suicide by hanging herself in her husband’s house, her family members alleged that she has been murdered and lodged a complaint with the Dabugaon police in this connection.
Initially, agitated villagers did not allow the police to seize Badrika’s body for the conduct of post-mortem.
Later police arrested deceased Badrika’s husband Sushil from a house where he was hiding.
While the police were taking Sushil after arresting him, family members of the deceased attacked the accused. While trying to protect the accused from the agitated villagers, policemen were manhandled.
“A case was filed at Dabugaon police station in this connection. We have arrested the woman’s husband and brought the body for the conduct of post-mortem,” said the SDPO.
Deceased Badrika’s mother Lilabati Panaka has alleged that her son-in-law Sushil has murdered her daughter.
