Koraput: The indefinite strike called by the Driver Ekta Mahamanch in support of its 10-point charter of demand turned violent in Jaipur in Odisha’s Koraput district on the second day of the stir on Thursday as hundreds of drivers staged a demonstration outside the Jeypore police station demanding the release of four detained members of the Mahamanch.
It is worth mentioning here that four drivers were detained by the Jeypore police after they brutally thrashed a driver who did not participate in the strike on Wednesday. The driver was beaten in the presence of the police. The police action against the Mahamanch drivers came after the victim lodged a complaint on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the agitating drivers organised pickets on the main roads in support of their demand. They threw flowers at the drivers of private transport vehicles who are not participating in the strike. Mahamanch members also stopped vehicles, especially oil tankers, at various points.
