Bamra: Tension prevailed in Bamra railway station as the ongoing agitation demanding stoppage of express trains at the station turned violent.
According to reports, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Chakradharpur of the South Eastern Railway had on Wednesday assured the agitators that all express trains would halt at Bamra.
However, none of the express trains halted at the station today and angry agitators locked the signal room and ticket counter.
The locking of the signal room put the movement of trains to halt from both ends which resulted in a clash between the agitators and the police.
Agitators pelted stones resulting in damage of a few police vehicles forcing the police to resort to mild lathicharge.
In the absence of signal Azad Hind Express has stopped at the station.
In view of the prevailing situation, three trains have been cancelled and several trains have been diverted.
Locals on Wednesday had staged a rail roko demanding stoppage of all express trains passing through Bamra railway station.
