**Burla (Sambalpur)/Bhubaneswar:** Tension at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) campus reached at a new level as agitating students raised slogans against the director Aswini Pujahari while he tried to discuss the issues with them.
The director failed to hold talks with the striking students due to such strong resistance.
In his media reactions, the Director said, “I came here to discuss about the issues with the students but couldn’t meet them as environment has become quite noisy. I’ve instructed the principal to meet a delegation of the students. I’ll discuss with then after that.”
The students are protesting against the VIMSAR administration alleging that they were wrongly being implicated in the case of attack on the Director’s official residence on Friday night.
Meanwhile, obscene posters were found near VIMSAR hostel after which further enraged the students. A complaint has been lodged at hospital police outpost regarding this.
On the other hand, local residents in Burla launched a 12-hour bandh in the town supporting the Director. The protesting locals are demanding arrest of the attackers.
Speaking on this, Health Minister Pratap Jena at the State Secretariat said, “As many as three FIR’s have been filed in this case. The culprits who are responsible for these incidents are yet to be identified. We are trying our best not to let the patients suffer.”
However, amid such a tense situation, a team from the Medical Council of India (MCI) visited VIMSAR to inspect its infrastructure before according its seal of approval for MBBS seat enhancement.
