Bhubaneswar: The State government on Saturday cancelled the leave of all agriculture field officials from December 2 to 6 in five districts of south Odisha in view of possible heavy rain under the influence of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal.
“Leave of all field officials of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam is cancelled from Dec 2 to 6. They shall be on duty on Sunday and be on high alert throughout, the Agriculture Department stated on X.
The department wrote to the Chief District Agriculture Officer and Deputy Director of Horticulture of all five districts in this regard.
All the field officials of the above districts have been directed to remain alert during the warning period from December 2 to 6 and sensitize farmers.
The holiday on Sunday (3rd December) for the above Districts is hereby cancelled, the letter read.
The department also issued an advisory for the farmers to protect their standing and harvested crops during the downpour.
The Met Department has predicted heavy rain in these districts due to the cyclonic storm over South-West Bay of Bengal.
The cyclone is likely to cross South Andhra Pradesh coast on December 5.
