Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar as not only a ruler but also a social reformer whose life and work serve as an inspiration and an exemplary model of women’s empowerment, good governance, and social service. He made these remarks during the state-level celebration of her 300th birth anniversary at Jayadev Bhavan.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Ahilyabai Holkar was a remarkable woman who, through her justice, courage, and unparalleled dedication to her people, remains immortal in Indian history. Her life inspires Odisha today, guiding the path toward good governance and social welfare.
He noted that Odisha, too, has many examples of women’s strength, and like Ahilyabai, there is a need to promote justice, education, and equality in society. The state government has implemented transformative schemes like the Subhadra Yojana to empower women, fostering their economic, social, and self-reliant progress.
The Chief Minister observed that many state governments draw inspiration from Ahilyabai’s ideals, and current governance efforts focusing on rural development, women’s empowerment, education, and health align with her vision.
Drawing inspiration from Ahilyabai’s life, the Chief Minister expressed a commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous society. He noted that at a time when the nation faces challenges, women’s power is leading the charge. Two days ago, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted how women’s strength spearheaded Operation Sindoor.
The Chief Minister concluded that Operation Sindoor is not just the name of a military operation but a symbol of women’s power.
Referencing Odisha’s festival ‘Savitri Osha,’ he recalled how Savitri fought Yama, the god of death, for her husband’s life. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a firm resolve to protect the honor of women, warning that anyone who disrespects them will face consequences.
He emphasized that the nation is in safe hands, echoing the sentiment, “If Modi is there, we are safe.”
Speaker Surama Padhy, who attended the event, described Ahilyabai Holkar as a symbol of justice and courage, whose life is an inspiration for all.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida stated that by following Ahilyabai’s ideals, Odisha can create new horizons in good governance, education, and women’s empowerment.
Minister for Odia Language, Literature & Culture, and Higher Education Suryabanshi Suraj called Ahilyabai a guiding light for today’s society. Former MP Saroj Pande was among the dignitaries present.
During the event, the Chief Minister and other guests unveiled an Odia book titled Karmayogini Punyashloka Ahilyabai Holkar, based on her life.
Minister for Housing and Urban Development Krushna Chandra Mahapatra delivered the welcome address, while social worker Prajnapriyadarshini Acharya offered the vote of thanks.
